Rare sighting in garden

This past August I noticed an orange butterfly in my garden. On closer inspection I immediately was able to identify it as a Dryfus Julia. We had just been to Costa Rica and even stayed in a room named Julia dryfus at Peace lodge. We are way North of its range so I began to call around and eventually I found out that a Julia had just escaped from Como Zoo and conservatory the day before. I live 2 miles away. How amazing is that. I took lots of pics. and will try to add one.

How fortunate you were to see and photograph this beauty. I have visited the Como Zoo/Conservatory display and hadn't thought of the butterflies escaping.
Are you south of them? Perhaps the Julia Dryfus was migrating.

mnwsgal, I live North of the zoo.
Zenpotter, They didn't get back to me until the next day and they asked if I would catch it. I never saw it again after that first day. Apparently they have to report it to the game and fish dept. in Maryland I believe. They keep close tabs on these butterfly exibits.
It sure made my day.
If you ever get the chance to visit Costa Rica stay at the Peace Lodge for 1 or 2 nights. They have the most amazing butterfly and bird exibits and awesome grounds. Just google peace lodge and you will see what I mean.
