Pop-Up 'Green House' suggestions?

Julie

Hi there-

I have been looking into purchasing one of the less expensive, easy, pop up type "green houses"- to get a head start on growing on seedlings in the spring- and wondering which one might be better- what should I look for and look out for. You know- all the usual questions one asks before making a dumb purchase... in trying to make it a wise one.

Do you have any suggestions- comments- insights to share?

Thanks

Julie

Check out Charley's Greenhouse online. They really know their stuff and will answer any questions you put to them. Nice bunch of folks out near my old area of WA State too. Even if you don't buy from them - say order same product from someone more local - I think you'll find their info useful.

And hey Julie? I miss ya :)

Have you decided on one, Julie?

    No- not yet....
I am not sure I will be able to get one, but hope does spring eternal!
I am waffling weather to spend the money on plastic pop up that will degrade from uv in a few years time- Or do I try a clunky home-made hoop house thingy- and wrap it in plastic every spring- or maybe there is something better out there I have not heard of yet...
I am hoping to give spring time seedlings a sheltered place in the sun to get a jump on things. The cold frames are stuffed to the brim with pots stacked on pots of seeds getting the bump of additional warmth to germinate. And- when they do germinate- they need a better home than I have given them so far.

    Julie,

All I can say is whatever you have been doing has been fantastic! Just about everything I've ever gotten as seed starts from you has done fantastically!

(I know, you'll tell me it's like benign neglect or something ;))

Julie, did you ever get a call on that note you left in the door of that house in Chisago (or was it Schafer) after the spring swap?

    That was a cool greenhouse.

Linda, No- I never did get a reply- bummer too- cuz that thing was GREAT! Like an Origami green house made of thermal insulated plastic walls, and I think it had a wood stove in it too.....
I may have to stop on by again.....
Maybe I can con- Uh- I mean ask, my sister to head on over and knock on the door (again)...

Thanks Marie for the props on the seedlings- yeah- I can make do with some just fine- and I probably will again this year- but GOSH- I sure would like to find something easy(ish) to put up and take down that would give em a bump in the early spring.....
