What kind of insects does moonflower attract?

I am going to plant a moonflower near my door. However, I wonder if the scent would also attract flies, mosqitos and other biting insects at night, when the door is open.... Please advise.

The main insect it attracts is a huge moth, which looks alot like a hummingbird. I had them growing on my backporch a few years ago, and found the moths fascinating to watch, rather than a nuisance. Although I read on another post that someone found that they dropped their wings sometimes and it was messy.

Interesting, Laurie, I wonder if we have this kind of moths in Canada. What do you mean that they dropped their wings? Did they stay alive without the wings?

No just moths, sphinx moths (sometimes called hawkmoths) which are beautiful, and many do live in Canada. They do not drop their wings unless injured or dying in my experience. Biting insects are not attracted to flowers (or those stupid bugzappers for that matter) but are instead attracted to people(!) The carbon dioxide & warmth of our breath is probably a factor in attracting the pests. Good luck!

The fascinating sphinx moths are also called hummingbird moths in this area and are a delight to watch in my garden. The messy moths in our area are the Miller moths-named for the miller's flour dust they leave all over. These are drawn by the light, get in the house, leaves messing droppings everywhere. They are a whole different deal-yuck! Brenda
