Ban of Ipoema in AZ

I just discovered this forum but have long been interested in Moon Gardens. I'm also a long time water gardener and have grown night blooming water lilies for more than twenty years. I'd love to grow Moonflower Vine (Ipoema sp) but cannot obtain the seeds. All the catalogs claim that they cannot ship to AZ (which is where I live), yet I once purchased them in a store who's proprietor explained that Ipoema, in general, was banned from the state because it invaded cotton fields, but certain species, such as Moonflower and Cypress Vine were no threat to cotton and were allowed. I'd love to have seeds for both of these plants and would appreciate any suggestions.

Go to the seed exchange forum and offer something to trade for them.

Here is a link that might be useful: seed exchange

Thank you. I did that and have had several replies. Now I have to find the time to respond to them! This is a great forum... I'll certainly come back and recommend it to friends.

Great! I figured it would work--they are a popular seed for traders.

hi-I'm from Az. and one reason they are banned is becuz they are toxic to livestock---as long as u don't have cows or sheep etc grazing on them lol---u should be fine-I used to send seed to my mom cuz she couldn't get it there

Morning glory and moonflower can get you high eating about 50+ blue morning seed can make you feel like mild lsd trip.

But the LSA (lsd-like) is posion to aminals in a different way.

Thats why there baned Moon flowers have very low LSA in them.
Blue morning glory have the most.

Seems like lots of other states would have a ban if it was the livestock issue - I always thought it was because it was invasive compared to native plants. I'm surprised that states which are much more known for livestock herds do not have this same ban, which makes me think its the pest species problem. Also I seem to remember they also could not be sent to Hawaii, but that does not seem to be the case anymore.
