Moonflowers & Climbing Vines Question

Posted by my_secret_garden 5 (My Page) on

Hi. I just have a quick question for anyone who is around. I have moonflowers and morning glories growing along my wood privacy fence and they are starting to get viney. I would like to encourage them to grow up my privacy fence but I don't know much about them. If I tack and hang strings down from my fence might they climb the strings? Or should I try some kind of large-holed mesh? I would prefer to get these to climb rather than creep along the ground because they are near my pond. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions! :)

RE: Moonflowers & Climbing Vines Question

My Secret Garden: try hemp string...it will last the summer season for you, be an easy fix & the vines love to grab ahold of it...both vines tend to climb about any surface fairly easy (as long as there is something for the vine to wind around).

Cindylee Grow: it is true that this vine is an annual for most of us. This is my first year growing it,I haven't decided if I'll dig mine up or not...If I do, I'll pot it up in a large pot (one that I'll keep it in next summer)...cut back the growth to a minimum and lightly water it on occasion and keep it stored in my shed with my other annuals...have had great success with them.
