Will MFs and MGs twine on a fishing line trellis?

| I like to make trellises out of clear fishing line attached to nails, so it is unobtrustive looking. Will my MFs and MGs twine around that fishing line, or do they need something fatter to wrap around? So far, they are small, so I can't quite tell if they can grip and get around the line...
I hope the answer is yes, so I don't have to get/make a new trellis, but honesty appreciated!
Thanks in advance. |

| Let me know how it goes -- it seems almost too thin for them to wrap around (if that makes sense), but I see on the internet that some people recommend it. |

| They will both do fine around fishing line! You will be surprised how fast they grow. The only problem you might have is the heaviness of the vines. |

| I did it with embroidery thread. My husband was amazed at how tightly they wound themselves around it. The weight wasn't a problem for the thread. That was in Indiana though, I wouldn't try it here in windy Oklahoma. |

| I've only used the fishing line trellis with morning glories but it works perfectly. Fishing line can be pretty strong... think about catching a big thrashing fish on it and it still holds up :) I picked up the fishing line tip from a thread on the frugal forum and it worked great for me both last year and this one. It makes for easy clean up at the end of the season also. Good luck. I'd give it a try. Susan |

| They wrap around single blades of grass at my house (guess that means I should cut the lawn huh??) :) so I don't see why fishingline would be a problem. Would look cool in my opinion! MK |

| I have used fishing line for years as a trellis for vines and am doing so right now. The only problem I have had is that heavy vines, like gourds, stretch the line. When this happens I just tighten up the slack. |

Hi I am new to Moonflowers and in Zone 7, Northwestern part of South Carolina, can Moonflowers be a Perenial without taking them in. I have just built a large deck with a Trellis type roof and am looking for something to climb that will be pretty and scented. I have some Caroline Jessamine, any suggestions. Troy-Joan@att.net Thank you |
