| umm,i just planted moonflower seeds yesterday in a small pot-the size of about 10 inches long and 12 inches wide. i got the soil from my backyard which wasnt really "GREAT" soil..and im kinda getting worried. i didnt even soak them in water for 10 hrs and just planted them right away.i didnt know:'(!!! what should i do? should i get a bigger pot? should i take the seeds out and soak them and put them in a better soil? its pretty sunny here and for now, i keep them by the window. they have gotten plenty of sun for the past day (heh) and i just watered it an hour ago. what should i do?? am i doing the right thing???please help!!!! |

| Hi Skeque, Sorry for the late response... I'm assuming that you have the Moonflower, Ipomoea alba and not a Datura species since you mentioned soaking the seeds? If so, I would recommend digging up the seeds and "nicking" them with a file, (just enough to get thru the top hard layer of the seed), before putting them in a glass of water overnight. By the next morning the seeds should have swelled to double their original size. Then plant them in a purchased potting mix about 1/2" under the soil level. Your backyard soil may be fine, but it may also be contaminated with fungus spores or micro-organisms that may harm your seedings. If after digging them up you find that they have already swelled or that the seed coat is cracked, (I would be surprised!), then replant them carefully in a well-draining potting mix being careful not to damage any root tip that might be visible. | i am so sorry! i havent checked this site for a while! wow, thank you so much. my moonflowers are growing great, but theyve outgrown their pots for quite a few days now. i guess i have to find a bigger pot for them? i wonder if theyll damage the roots but im giving it a try =:......................... thank you mike!!!! =] |
