i recently planted two young cherry trees in my backyard, they are growing in our oklahoma red clay i am wondering if they will do well or should i have prepared the soil in advance??? also living with three cats, atleast one of them has taken to using my tree's mulch as his personal kitty litter!! so do i need to stop this from happening or is the kitty poo going to help my cherry tree?

Amending clay usually causes more harm than good. You risk forming a bathtub effect where surrounding water drains into where you amended. It is usually better to plant the root ball a little higher.

As for the cat litter, about all it will do is draw feral and neighbor's cats to do the same thing in your beds. Is that what you want?
