Skunk cabbages = little angels

I moved here from So. Arizona, and I had been hearing about an amazing flower that produces it's own heat and sometimes comes up in January!

You locals probably are thoroughly familiar with those little "skunk cabbages," or as Pepe le Pew might call them "ma petite chou!" he he

Anyway, so finally after 11 years here, I got up the gumption to email the Kendall forest preserve folks and find out where to see some. We went yesterday, and I saw them and they are adorable.

I posted a few pix at the link below, and you can see them if you click on the thumbnails or run the slide show. They aren't the best pix ever, but you can see them. It is Lyon Forest Preserve and Lyon Creek fen.

Have any of you ever tried buying those somewhere and putting them in? I imagine they might be fussy about their location and moisture. They are neat plants.

Here is a link that might be useful: Skunk cabbages at Lyon fen

Oh what a neat plant. I never knew it existed. I really want one now. LOL.
