transplanting- when can it be done?

What is the earliest that plants can be transplanted? I want to move some raspberries and a clump of ornamental grass. Its warm right now and wet but winter could still come back.

Thank you, Sophie

RE: transplanting- when can it be done?

Hi Sophie, I don't know anything about raspberries but your grasses and all perennials should wait till April when they start to show signs of coming out of dormancy. Living close to the Lake front I may be still warmer than you. I know today and this week it will be warmer and everyone is itching to get outside. But really right now concentrate on clean up. The grasses only can be trimmed down now to 6" but transplanting I would wait till they are showing signs of growth. Be more cautious and you'll have better result.
