Might be one of the JPM rhododendrons - saw those at Home Depot yesterday very inexpensively priced for a gallon size, but they were slightly more pink than purple. A very lovely color though. I picked one up and put it back down - now today I'm thinking I want one.

Or it could be one of the Northern Lights series of azaleas which is a rhodo x Northern Lights cross, I think. Very popular and cold hardy here in the upper Midwest.

Thanks so much for your comments. I got a "Karen" azalea today and it's already in. The color is more pinkish but I realized that I already have a lot of purple in that area. It also is supposed to be pretty hardy. I didn't realize until I did more reading that azaleas are rhododendrons. If I can keep it happy, I may have to add more varieties to my yard--once I started looking I really became taken with how many of them grow in an Asian garden kind of shape. I'm going to have to go ask my neighbor for pine needle for mulch even if they'll think I'm weird.
