The seeds should be fine. There are many kinds of seeds that won't germinate unless they are subjected to alternate freeze/thaw cycles, the kind of weather they would have to endure if the seed fell off the plant in the fall, and sat on the ground all winter. Seedlings, the tiny plants that come up in a week or two, are sensitive to frost damage.
