Chicago area had hail last evening - anyone have any damage? In the west suburbs we only saw a little bit of 1/2 inch hail and didn't notice any damage. Whew!

I'm in Oak Park and was stuck under our carport when the hail started yesterday. It was neat but creepy at the same time. Hail here was up to 1". I went out this afternoon to survey the damage - ouch! The hail must have fallen pointing to the south as that side of our yard got nailed (the house protected some gardens - thank goodness! My bleeding hearts are definitely bleeding. So many of the branches were cracked/ripped right off. My hostas don't need slugs - hail ripped the leaves to shreds. The daffodils had already finished, but not too many leaves are left to feed the bulbs. I raked the front yard and filled a tall brown bag with leaves. The elm tree next door dropped all it's seeds and our front yard looks like it snowed. We drove through Oak Park tonight and it seems as if our corner of town got it the worst. Our neighbor said the last time he saw a storm like this was in 1992. More cleanup tomorrow.

Ouch is right! That's it for my hostas this year. Only the stems of the plantaginea are standing. Holes are everywhere on Sum and Substance, Elegans and Halcyon. The regular green and white ones look like rags. Everything else with large leaves or blades? :-( Several Lily sprouts & Alliums broke off. On and on the damage is staggering. :-(

here in indy, we had a hail storm about 3 weeks ago. we had roof damage on our 16 year old roof, so insurance is paying for a new one. the tulips and daffs were just done..

yeah, largely just hostas got hit (trees did OK for some reason, as did flowers), and they look like they were in the Valentine's Day Massacre!

I may have spoken too soon, I have baby flowering dogwoods and they all look like hell, is it possible that hail damage could have prompted the dreaded anthracnose so quickly?
