Apple Trees for Zone 3

Hello everyone!

My parents would really like to grow their own apples so I've called my brothers and we are planning on buying them a couple of apple trees for Mother's & Father's day. They have plenty of room out on the farm in ND. I'd like to get them a tree that produced medium to large apples and was wondering if any of you had any favorites that you might recommend. I've had great luck with Golden Delicious but that was in a very different climate (So. Cal. mountains).

Also, do any of you have a good idea of what it would cost to buy an apple tree that would produce decent sized apples within a couple of years? I was expecting 50-75 dollars per tree.

Thanks so much!

Tanna B.
