Snow Damaged Arborvitae

DLM2000-GW

We have a Techny Arborvitae hedge and several of them were damaged by the heavy wet snows here in the Chicago area. We've cut out the obviously dead branches, tied and staked where we can and have them supported so they are at least upright. However some look pretty pathetic and moth eaten. These are 8 - 9 feet so replacing them is cost prohibitive. I'd be willing to trim back the entire hedge if they would come back but have always thought that can't be done with arborvitae. Or can it? Thanks for any suggestions.
