I live in Central North Carolina. I purchased several Dianthus at my Lowe's Home Improvement store. Some pink, salmon and pink and white Dianthus. they are blooming this May and were very pretty. The butterflies love them. Now they need deadheading. How far down the stem do I cut to deadhead? I understand they will bloom again. Please help. Thank you.

I just grab a handful of the old flower stems and cut away. The basal foliage is left to regrow.
