| I have two spots in my St. Louis yard that need a shrub and I can't find one to work! Hopefully, y'all can help. Here are the details:
FIRST SPOT -
SECOND SPOT -
I've tried many plants and shrubs and they don't seem to take. I end up trasplanting them somewhere else and am left scratching my head with what to do. Thanks in advance! |

| My experience with shrubs is pretty slim, so I don't have any advice for you except this - the Mo Botanical Gardens plant finder is very very helpful. Plug in your requirements and you'll get just what you need: http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/plantfinder/Search.asp Besides all the encyclopedic info, comments from users are always pertinent, as well. |

| What have you tried so far? That isn't very much sun but a shade loving shrub might not like the afternoon midwest heat. Annabelle hydrangea will take more sun than other hydrangeas and one of my favorites. I have one on the northwest corner of my house and it doesn't mind the afternoon sun. It's also close to a downspout. I think it would do well in your first spot. Still trying to think of something a little smaller for the second spot. |

| Thanks for the referrals. I love the botanical gardens website finder!!! Christie, how big is your annabelle? |

| My Annabelle is 4' x 4' right now but I think when it's in full bloom later this summer, it will be at least a few inches taller and wider. Mobot has a "Plants of Merit" list too that is wonderful especially since you live in the same area and some of their plant descriptions have a link to "bloom data" that shows when and how long the plant was in bloom. They have a great website. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Plants of Merit
