| I have a long, narrow area (roughly 2x14 ft) that runs along my front porch and as of now is filled with dirt, waiting for something to be planted in it, but I'm at a loss. It is east facing, and gets sun until about noon. I LOVE lilacs, but I'm afraid that even the smallest varieties won't do well in such a small space. People I have asked have suggested echinacea and daylillies, by I don't care for them. Are lilacs completely out of the question, and if so....any suggestions? |

| Well, I can tell you what I put in a spot like that. I put salvia, dianthus, and hesperaloe parviflora breaklights. The hesper aloe seems to be doing well. The salvia doesn't seem to be blooming too well, and the dianthus is starting to bloom again. I'm thinking they're not getting enough sun. Another thing I was considering in that spot was a type of hibiscus called "mallow" but this might also need lots of sun. here's a pick of my hesperaloe parviflora. The only problem is that it's eventually going to spead and get in the way of people walking by.
