Help! Shrub reques...

I need to select some shrubs to use as a privacy screen in a side yard. The backdrop for these are some Thuja Green Giants, which are coming along nicely with some serious TLC.

Specs:

Full sun

Zone 5 (IL)

Would like to top out at no less than 7-8 feet.

Spread of 4-6 feet or more (flexible on this)

Would prefer evergreen but will consider deciduous if no good evergreen options. Have considered lilac, viburnums, rhodos, butterfly bush. I have some hydrangeas serving the same purpose on the other side of the yard (where there is more shade) and they are growing very well.

I would prefer to stay away from slow growers. Moderate is acceptable. Of course more rapid is preferred.

I would very much appreciate any insight! If I could come up with an evergreen, I would be delighted.

Have you considered hollies (ilex spp.)? Hollies would be an excellent choice for you. There's a lot of different species/cultivars, and they don't get super tall. As far as fast-growing is concerned, that all depends on your soil conditions. They like acid soils, so if you don't have acid soils, you may have to fertilize.
