Sidalcea 'Party Girl'

Does anyone have experience with this plant? I put one in late last summer and it's showing okay growth but nothing to boast about. The Mobot page says it doesn't do that well in hot, humid conditions...which of course is what we get in Kansas City. I have it in partial shade in an attempt to alleviate soil drying and the heat. I'm wondering if I should not expect much. Help, anyone?

I grew this one last year on the north side (part shade) of my house...it is trying to come back after the freeze...

Although...I wasn't that impressed with it...small blooms...kind of puny...

Mine does okay in almost full sun here. The problem this year is that I have some bugs chewing up the original plant. Luckily I have volunteer seedlings that are doing better.
