Trunking Yuccas and Agaves

Has anyone in the Midwest tried to grow Yucca Rostrata, Faxoniana or Agave Harvardiana or Parryi? If so how did it go with them? I'm thinking about planting them next year but I'm worried about creating a big sandy, rocky pit in my yard and not having it work out.
