I have an ugly fence that I would like to cover with a vine of some sort. There are actually two fences a chain link with a wooden fence butted up behind it running the whole length of my property. Most of the run in my backyard has bushes growing but there is an area that is about 10 feet long that I have two rose of sharon trees and a sitting area. The neighbor that this fence shares does not like intrusive vines. She gets worried about spiders. I have thought about cl hydrangea but am worried it would want to train horizontally instead of vertically. I do not mind trimming the vine from going over the six foot fence as long as it is not all the time. (like the grape vine my other neighbors grow that takes over my garden on the other side of the fence) I hope I have described the situation well. The fence on my side is exposed to the north so good sun but not overbearing. Any suggestions would be great!!!

Try a clematis like Jackmanaii. It has beautiful purple flowers for most of Summer. Its not intrusive or gets spiders! :)

The area is a bit small for climbing hydrangea. Once it gets going, you might be pruning more than you like. I second the clematis suggestion.

I put the Climbing Hydrangea that I got for five dollars on the side of the garage. I hope it will climb siding. I planted three Barbara Dibley Clematis on the ugly fence. Thankyou for your help!!!
