Like any tree, make sure it goes into the winter season with adequate moisture. Dry soil at the time of freeze is hard on plants. Aspen are very tough little buggers. They grow way up in Alaska. I think his aspen will be fine. Winter cold certainly won't take one out.

Yep, quaking aspens sure are tough little buggers. So are all the millions of suckers they send up (even coming up in a crack in the dark garage)! I hope you have a couple acres between you , because I'm seeing first hand what an aspen can and will do....not good.

A friend gave me one from Northern wisconsin. I do love it but the original tree died. I allowed 3 suchers to grow into trees and have not had a problem keeping other suchers mowed down. Isn't this tree a poplar.

These trees are closly related to poplars, but are populus. I've included a link that tells about this tree and you can click on it's invasive tendencies. A former neighbor of mine (she had the one growing in her garage) has one. Her late husband wanted a tree so went into the timber to get one. While he was alive, yea, he cut down the suckers with the lawn mower. Trouble is, after a while, it doesn't just sucker in your yard. It comes up against your foundation, in your flower gardens, in back of your house, cracks in your driveway, on the other side of your driveway...get the picture? You spend all your time digging up the suckers. Because if you just cut them off, they sprout again. She has no family in the area, so guess what I get to do? There are so many other lovely trees to pick....
