First Winter as a Gardener

Hello everyone! Here in Ohio, October ushers in the cooler weather, and as a newbie gardener, I am unsure how to care for some of my plants. Google searches and forums like this have been wonderful in giving me tips. I still, though, am unsure about how to care for a few of my container plants (Vinca Minor, Wormwood, and my newly-bought mums)...With container plants such as these, should I plant them before winter or leave them in the containers? If I left them out in containers, they would be protected from winds by our deck walls, but I'm not sure if the cold would still kill them! Any help is appreciated:)!

They would probably not survive in the containers...the mums will especially vulnerable.... Plant them now and hope for the best....mulch over the mums their first winter....

They need to be in the ground -- you can drop them in the ground in their pots if you're short of time or unsure of permanent locations. Mums sold this time of year are often varieties that are grown as an annual crop and they may not be ones that will overwinter but it doesn't hurt to try. As suggested, mulch them well to prevent frost heaving. Good luck, and happy gardening!
