I don't see why not. Corwin Davis, one of the pioneers of pawpaw culture grew his at Bellevue, MI - probably just as cold as your location. Bigger is not necessarily better, particularly with pawpaws. You'll probably be best served by planting smaller container-grown seedlings or grafted selections. My own experience with grafts - even ones that I've done on my own potted seedlings is that a significant percentage of them go along for a couple of years, and then the graft dies back and the seedling rootstock takes over. But, it could be that I didn't watch 'em closely enough after outplanting, and an understock shoot popped up and outcompeted the grafted variety before I noticed it.
