My yard never did hit freezing last night yet this morning it started snowing really hard for over an hour! I stopped at home for lunch to find this!!!! I have never seen anything like it!!!

Yup...you got a freeze (actual temps can be deceiving)...Chicago's 'feels like' temp is 24ºF.

We got a freeze last night with no first frost, too.

Are those tropical plants in your yard?

I hardly got any snow but I did get a lot of frost damage. Nice pic.

That happened to us here in Mi, too. The snow didn't stick where I am though. It looks so funny to see all those Tropical plants covered in snow! How do you get them to survive there over winter?

Kyle, Your yard looks wonderful, even with the snow. How do you get the red hot poker to flower so late. Mine flowers in June,I'm also in zone 5/6.

ptmax,
Thanks! The red hot poker was planted this year and it was very small up until early fall when it started to bloom. I think next year it will bloom in June also.
