Late bloomers

I planted tomatoes, peppers, cukes, squash, and eggplant in late May. Nothing really took off until September. By Oct 1 I was getting oodles of tomatoes, but there was not enough time for them to redden. The peppers (except for banana)and cukes were puny if existant. What went wrong? Zinnia

No nearly enough info to go on. Where are you, what are the soil conditions, what was the watering schedule, what varieties were tried?
