| MY HUSBAND PLANTED ABOUT 12 ASPEN TREES IN THE FRONT OF OUR MOUNTAIN HOUSE. WHEN HE CHECKED ON THEM TODAY 11/8 SOMETHING HAD BROKEN 3 OF THE TREES OFF ABOUT 15 INCHES FROM THE GROUND. WILL THESE TREES BE OK? WHAT IF ANYTHING CAN WE DO TO HELP THE TREE OUT NOW? |

| Keep the deer/elk away from it. The trees will bud-back vigorously in the spring. Select a branch that emerges from the trunk close to the break and train it to the vertical. Remove all but one or two other branches (insurance). Next spring when you're sure the new leader is viable, prune off the other branches. Also, prune off the stub above the new leader at a 45* angle with the top of the cut terminating immediately above (about 1/8-1/4") the crotch formed by the new leader and the old trunk. Al |
