wonder why this forum attracts so little attention? ... anyway, here is my question ... i need a shed ... a *nice* shed ... if i leave it up to my husband, he will buy one at menards et al ...

it will be an integral part of my back yard gardens, so i would like something nicer than what the hardware stores have ... i live north of chicago ... any suggestions?

thanks, phyl

Hi Phyl!

Did you google garden/potting shed plans? Or look at some books that may have plans? Menards, Lowes and Home depot might have some how to books that might be useful. There also might be someone near you that builds them. I hope I helped.

Once their kids grew up and moved away friends of mine converted the playhouse into a shed. Great looking and functional too.

I know this is old, but - a suggestion. Please make sure you get a permit and place your shed per your town's codes. Otherwise they will just make you pull it down and it will be money wasted.

And certain subdivisions have their own covenants within towns... and some do not allow sheds of any sort.

And those "temporary" tarp things the hardware box stores sell, those are NOT considered temporary in our county. You need a permit for those believe it or not - even if you are in an unincorporated area you still need to check your county codes.

They git ya coming and going don't they. Personally I have seen a couple cute ones at menards. Good luck!

I got a 'tuffshed' through Home Depot. I'm using it for my woodshop and it's quite nice. I do need insulation though...it's cold out there these days!! I got the gardenbarn model.

Here is a link that might be useful: Tuffshed's website.

phyl,

just wanted to say so sorry about the 'pack'. My dad was an old packers fan from way back in the 60's, and I was pulling for them yesterday even though nowadays my first loyalty is for the Chiefs....hope Brett comes back next year - hate to think his last nfl pass will be that lousy interception....
