Hi all,
I am somewhat new to native plant gardening and I ran across what I THOUGHT were ilex verticillata in the woods yesterday but now I am not sure. They were probably about 7-10 feet tall (varied), slender, and had red berries on them, no thorns or leaves. Some plants were in low moist spots, some in more upland spots. The berries seemed to be at the ends of the branches. One one plant a few berries were clustered on small short stems on the ends of branches. The berries were the same size as the ilex opaca berries. So, how do you tell the difference between verticillata and decidua? Sorry if this seems naive. Learning here. Thanks.
