Salvia Allen Chickering vs. Salvia leucantha

I've gradually been transitioning my garden to a native-oriented and drough-tolerant garden (although I'm not a purist). I recently replaced a Mexican bush sage with an Allen Chickering (a Clevelandii hybrid) because I was tired of the dead-looking sticks the bush sage resembled in the winter. The Allen Chickering is said to be "evergreen." I garden along the southern California coast. Does anyone have any experience with this sage?
