help ID two small trees in East Texas + advice

Hello! I would love some advice on best native plant ID sites so I don't have to burden ya'll with my questions. If you have any suggestions on sites, let me know.

I am interested in ID'ing two spindly shrubs/small trees I noticed today on a scenic drive in East Texas.

The first one was very similar to yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria) except there were no leaves visible. I ought to have collected some fallen leaves. There were plenty of hollies on the fence-rows, but this was distinctly different. Not just one plant, either, but well distributed.

The second was in a creek bed, I have no idea what the leaves or flowers looked like but the seed pods (legumes) were very distinctive, paper-thin lantern-like, three sided an dihescent, or at least easily shattered. I'm guessing non-native due to it's growing habit, but who knows. :-)

Please seed my latest blog entry for pictures (toward the end).

Thanks!!!
