Does sugar sumac respond well to coppicing?

Here in N Az woodland, sugar sumac (rhus ovata) is a common broad leaf evergreen shrub/small tree but I know nothing about using or maintaining it in a landscape and no one I asked seems to know either. It has great looking outer foliage but the inner branches seem to die producing a dense ball of dry tinder...not good in wildfire country.

We have a lot of this stuff around the house we just moved into. If I can use it by coppicing or pollarding every couple years every without creating a fire hazard, it stays..otherwise its gotta go.
