companion plant ideas wax myrtle

Does anyone have companion plant ideas to go with southern wax myrtle? I am letting the WM form a thicket as it is part of a wildlife corridor / hedgerow and I'd like ideas for flanking alongside wax myrtle. Preferably large and full in a similar manner as WM due to it's intended use.

I've read yaupon mentioned for this but it's not what I am looking for. I'm actually not seeing that as a great combo plus I have two already - that's enough. Thought I'd ask for new ideas. I don't know what "matches" since there are so many plants I have not physically seen and people here have. Berries for wildlife would be nice but the priority is wildlife cover.

The area is part/filtered sun, little direct sun, mixed woodland edge, medium water and enough space to support a full grown wax myrtle, or something 15'-20' wide. I need a large full shrub, not a tree, lots of trees already.

Thank you!
