From what I've read, Oregon grape is not difficult to transplant from pot-grown plants, but is extremely difficult to transplant from the wild. This is because Oregon grape establishes colonies by sending out an underground branch which grows a new plant. The new plant remains attached to the parent plant for several years and is slow to establish its own root system. The huckleberry is the same way. I think I can find you an oceanspray sapling and a snowberry shrublet, too. I will bring you a selection of native plants for you. I am going to post a list of plants I have available on my page, providing my internet cooperates.

I was just at the Musser site. They are still sending out potted plants. Another good one is Sunlight gardens in TN. I ordered from both when I lived in TN. I wasn't especially happy with Musser. Good price, but extremely small plants. Sunlight's plants were small also, but seemed of better quality. You could also order from ForestFarm.com. Prices are a little high, mostly because of shipping, but the plants I received were of exceptional quality. They probably aren't sending out plants now, but like the others said, I'm sure they'd take your money and send them in the fall. Terry

Full sun flowers might include: Penstemon, clumping Solidago (for fall interest), Lobelias if it is moist enough, Rudbeckia or coneflower. I think that it might be too hot for Heuchera - that would be true for Georgia. As to grasses - I think that is a personal preference. I don't find a lot of them available in nurseries. But Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is certainly very nice if you can get it.

Nice place! Talk to as many "nurserymen" as you can on this along with studying whatÂs posted here. My concern about your situation is a desire for a multi-tasker. You might end up making so many compromises to get that one plant that will do both, it wonÂt do both to your satisfaction. Look at all the options for a good muti-tasker. Then look at the options for a good screen planting. Then look at the options for a security shrub. Make a decision based on what really important to you and what will fit that role. This may be oversimplified but if you want security, get a dog. I would much prefer a good screen tree like Cupressocyparis leylandii or Leyland Cypress.
