Trillium rivale seedling ID

I've grown several species of Trillium from seed, but my first seedlings of T. rivale are just now beginning to show growth above ground (I think). The leaves I'm seeing are undivided and look almost like miniature Arum italicum leaves, about the size of a thumbnail. Does this sound typical for this species when it produces its first leaves? The seeds were planted almost 18 months ago, so I'm hoping something else hasn't taken over the pots.

The first year trillium seedlings (above ground) are a single leaf. The next year they may have two, then eventually 3.

All Trillium species are monocotyledons (monocots) and produce only a single leaf upon germination. (seed leaf)
Monocot seeds contain one cotyledon, or embryonic leaf. When these seeds germinate, the cotyledon remains below ground, absorbing nutrients from the endosperm, the starchy food supply in the seed. The cotyledon transports these nutrients to the developing seedling.
For a brief time, the cotyledons also serve as the first photosynthesizing leaves, but they wither and die when the true leaves emerge.
Monocots produce flower parts, petals, sepals, etc., in 3's or multiples of 3 (6.9, etc.). They also have fibrous roots and the leaf veins are parallel, unlike dicots, which have net veined leaves.
True leaves may appear the second year, but often not until the third year.

Hi pinkspoonbill, I would love to trade for more than one 2" seedling, or even a bigger one (or two) from last year. You listed as wanting unusual things...well how about multiple starts of the Pussytoes linked below for the seedlings, or something else from my list for a bigger one from last year. Dear Judy, I have hundreds of bigleaf maple seedlings, which I could bring bareroot to the Green Elephant. LMK if you want me to save some as they are going to be covered by a huge compost heap otherwise. These are 6" tall this year, but they will be 5' tall by this time next year; they grow fast. You're right Rita. When you consider he started them in Pennsylvania, and then they survived in North Carolina, these should be some mega-survivors. I can't get over how huge his root systems are! and he sends such huge fans! I will have a ball planting mine. I added them in to my data-base last night. I'm no expert by ANY means so people can correct me if I'm wrong but here's what I see in your pictures: 1. Red Trillium (trillium erectum) 2. Looks like Virginia creeper but those flowers...they aren't as far as I know. Are they separate plants? Or are those flowers attached to the vine? In Virginia creeper the flowers look like this: http://rnrstreamer.lsu.edu/ecosystems/webtour/species/virginiacreeper/images/PARqu61a_web.jpg 3. ? 4. This looks like some sort of "beech". The serrated edges and deeply grooved veins are very beech-like. I think you are right in thinking it's a sapling. And if it's a beech you are fortunate to have it. Take a look around and see if you have any beech trees in the vicinity. The American beech has relatively smooth, silvery grey bark an the branches tend to swoop downward rather than up toward the sky as most trees do. 5. This is either Solomon's Seal http://ncnatural.com/wildflwr/solomon-new.jpg or False Solomon's Seal http://ncnatural.com/wildflwr/falsesol.jpg The stem of Solomon's seal is quite straight while the stem of False Solomon's seal grows in a bit of a zigzag. Also the flowers on Solomon's Seal are all along the underside of the stem usually in pairs while the flowers for False solomon's seal are at the tip of the stem. Barb
