Toni, I did venture out to Home Depot today, and came home with three different compact fluorescent bulbs -- the spiral fluorescent energy saving ones. One 30 W (120 W equivalent), 2000 lumens, bright white (they didn't have full-spectrum); a 23 W (100 W equiv.), 1600 lumens, warm white; and a 19 W (75 W equiv.), 840 lumens, "daylight." I was thinking of using the 30 W, on my orange tree, and either of the other two bulbs for the coffee plant and my passiflora vines. Am I on the right track? Or, do you recommend a different strategy? Lastly, I have timers for the lights, but am not real sure how much supplemental light to give the plants. They're all in a Southern exposed window, though due to the angle of the sun and an abundance of trees, they don't get too much direct sunlight. The orange tree has 5 small to medium-sized oranges, and an abundance of tiny ones (the plant had gone to bloom just at the end of the summer....It's about 3 years old. First of all, I must say you have chosen a house with a lovely garden. Congratulations on your new home. For i.d. purposes it is best to have a close up of just one plant per photo so that we know what we are talking about, but I will have a stab at a few of them. The low variegated ground cover is a Lamium sp. The small plants with white flowers are Vinca. The three round shrubs are probably Box. The white flowers behind them are Hydrangeas. The white daisy flowers near the gas? meter are Shasta daisies. The shrubs near the pink bird feeder might be Azaleas. The large leafed variegated plants are Hostas. Hi Rina, I used the miracle gro cactus + palm soil but I don't think it drained sufficiently. I'll purchase some perlite to mix in when I repot the plant. It's only been out for a night to callus so I'm going to leave it out a bit longer. That photo makes me feel much better -- my plant has a trunk of a similar-looking size, and is about a foot tall. I've only heard of much smaller cuttings rooting so I was nervous, and I'm still probably going to cut one of the branches off to try and root it just in case the larger plant doesn't survive. Did your thicker jade make roots? And if so, did it take longer than for a smaller start? I have another question in case you have any opinion. I'm leaving my apartment in about 3 weeks to travel home for a month (I'm currently a student). I was planning to leave all my plants here and just water them very well before leaving, but now I'm not sure if I want to leave the jade. I can try taking it on the plane with me but I don't know if that would cause it more stress than it's worth. If I do that I'd leave it with my mom for the foreseeable future since she's a better green thumb than me 😅 do you have any ideas here? If you can transplant into a little bit bigger pot without disturbing the existing root ball it shouldn't add to the stress on the plant. You don't want to go from a very small pot to a big pot all at once. You need to do it in stages, one pot size up at a time. I converted your Celsius and you're talking about a range of 51 to 66 Fahrenheit. That is not too cold at all for roses. Roses can take temps down to about -2C before suffering any damage. At 11 to 19C they should still be growing, slowly but growing. Put it outside, in dappled shade, and give it a chance to recover. Once it leafs out again gradually move it out into full sunlight. Roses need a lot of sunlight to bloom. Roses also like a lot of water. As long as the pot has good drainage holes so any excess water can drain out of the pot freely don't worry about the drizzle. Do not put any kind of tray under the pot that will hold water in the roots. Roses hate to sit in water and have soggy, wet roots. Don't worry about the fertilizer that's already in the soil. Just do not add any kind of new fertilizer to the rose until it leafs back out and is growing again. Keeping it outside where it will get rained on should help flush that existing fertilizer through the soil quicker anyway.
