Another ID needed

This is the last (for now ;)) ID I need before I lay the brush hog down on the back. This is, without a doubt, my favorite flowering plant growing wild in the back. It gets to be around 4-5' tall. It has delicate foliage that appears to drift or float in mid-air. The flowers are nothing special and don't seem to last long, but I love the soft cool presence of this plant. I seem to remember two plants appeared to be perrenials for two years but the drought got them last year and they are no where to be seen so far. It looks like they seeded well as there are a bunch of volunteers around where they used to be.

First pic is a pic from today with new growth coming out. Second and third pics are from last June (the 8th).

It is a legume, possibly a Vicia species.

We do have some baptista that also presents with white flowers, but this is very different from the ones I am remembering. Not ruling it out, just saying it is different from the one I know is Baptista :)

There are B. alba, B. leucantha and B. bracteata with white/cream flowers. I have been trying for several years to find a true "alba" with the chocolate stems, but they all turn out to be Baptisia with the normal green stem.

That plant in the most recent photo that you posted is Penstemon digitalis.

But the recent photo is not the same plant as in the first photos. Just look at the leaves!

Oh yes, I know they are VERY different plants :) They also have vastly different blooming times. The p. digitalis in bloom now while the first still without a positive ID blooms early June here not to mention the leaves, growth habit, and size.

This is definitely not Baptisia - it grows from a clump and is very lupine-like.

You may have a different one than the pest we have out here, which is similar but is nearly a shrub, and erect and very tall, 6 ft and more. Unlike back east, we have had a very cool spring and the summer plants are barely showing. I will check to see if the foliage is the same.

It looks like Baptisia alba. It is probably the variety macrophylla, which is sometimes called B. leucantha or B. lactea.
