Shooting star

I was walking the "East bluff trail" at Devil's Lake State Park, about 40 miles northwest of Madison, Wisconsin. This was on May 16th, Thursday. We saw large numbers of Dodecatheon meadia, or shooting star, growing along the trail, where the woodland had been cleared of brush in past years. There were too many to count, there must have been hundreds of plants. They were just beginning to bloom.
