My mom planted my jakfruit seeds in the same pot as the blueberry bushes. Will the Jackfruit grow or will it kill the blueberries? Does anyone know a cheap place to buy jackfruit seeds?
Without knowing what it is, I really have no way of knowing if it will die or not.
Where are you located and are you growing these indoors in a pot or outdoors? Where did you get the jackfruit seeds?
According to Wikipedia:
The jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is a species of tree of the mulberry family (Moraceae) native to parts of South and Southeast Asia. It is well suited to tropical lowlands. Its fruit is the largest tree borne fruit in the world[1], seldom less than about 25 cm (10 in) in diameter. Even a relatively thin tree, around 10 cm (4 in) diameter, can bear large fruit. The fruits can reach 36 kg (80 lbs) in weight and up to 90 cm (36 in) long and 50 cm (20 in) in diameter. The jackfruit is something of an acquired taste, but it is very popular in many parts of the world. The sweet yellow sheaths around the seeds are about 3Â5 mm thick and have a taste similar to that of pineapple, but milder and less juicy.
Does that sound right? If so, it is not native to North America.
I got it from a ripe jackfruit. I am in northern Georgia. It is outside in a pot. Yes it sounds right. Do you have any jackfruit trees? I don't realy know if they are in that pot. She won't admit where she put them. They might be inside w/the mini decoration tree (it is alive). Do you know some where to order jackfruit seeds? I like the scientific name. :)
I am in north Georgia too. I don't know where you can get jackfruit seeds. I am really only interested in plants native to this area.
Good luck with it. Be sure and check the hardiness of it - it may not be hardy to zone 7 low temperatures; if it is not, don't leave it outside in the winter.
Mostly trees, shrubs, ferns, some perennials like coreopsis, penstemon, cardinal flower, butterfly weed, sunflowers, mountain mint. In the spring I have trilliums, bloodroot, coral bells, foamflower, wild ginger, lots of spring ephemerals.
U can get jack fruit seeds from many nurseries in florida thru online. But is u go to any asian stores in summer u will be able to get fresh fruit (fresh cut fruit into 1 lb or 2lb blocks. Eat the fruit and use the seeds for plants. The seeds when fresh germinate very easily, if soaked in water for a day and then planted in a pot with seed starting mixture. In around 10 days u will be able to see the shoots. I did the same 3 weeks back and now i have 2 to 3 inch seedlings. These plants usually take 3 years to fruit.
