White Cedar

Does anyone have experience with growing white cedar on average (not moist) soils? My new neighbor is building a gigantic garage that will spoil a bucolic view of parkland. I bought a couple of white cedars at a native plant sale with the idea of screening some of the new, unimproved view. I was probably thinking of red cedar when I bought them, because the location is pretty sunny and average as far as moisture goes. The soil is acid clay. What I've read suggests they would like the soil but may need more moisture. The vendor I bought from said that, although they grow in swampy areas, they're actually fairly drought-tolerant. So -- anyone have success or failure with this tree under these conditions? Thanks much.
