You might want to research the different types of Hoya plants. Certain types of hoya are pretty floriferous. Hoya lacunosa is one that is fragrant and seems to bloom frequently for people. However, most plants only bloom during a certain season and won't bloom continuously, especially indoors, so your best bet for constant fragrance may be to try growing some herbs on your windowsill. Basil can be grown indoors pretty easily. Rosemary plants aren't the easiest to grow indoors but it seems like some people can do it. Heliotrope Marine, even though an annual, is still putting out new little flower clusters and I love the fragrance. Does anyone grow the perennial Heliotrope I've seen on some sites and know if it's as fragrant as the annual? The second & third flush of rose blooms were great until the DEER ate every bush the other night...bent over the 4' rabbit fencing to get to EVERY bush. There are 4 tiny new own root bushes they hadn't touched before. Of course they had a fragrance rating of 8-10 but that's no excuse for the deer. Echincaea Fragrant Angel (white) really does smell like a rose as advertised. The one Cherry Cleome up in full sun mailbox bed is up to 16 stems...another annual. I wouldn't call its odor a "fragrance" exactly but it sure smells...LOL. When I'm bending over watering or deadheading I ask myself, "What's that smell?" and realize it's the darn Cleome. I sniffed my Joe Pye Weed after seeing it noted but the scent on mine is very light. The bees don't seem to mind the lack of strong fragrance. Again, foliage on Agastache Honey Bee Blue (flowers petered out already) and Scarlet Sage have their scents. Was counting on those beautiful roses for more scent over next 2 weeks. Drat and double drat...the deer don't care about the 4-5 repellant scents I rotate or the fact they had to bend the fencing to get at the roses. I never really thought about missing floral scents this time of year until this thread. I'll have to note what people have said still holds scent and see if it's rabbit and/or deer resistant. How many years before I admit it's a battle in vain and the war is already lost? Probably not for next year since I'm already making notes about what stays and what I need to replace that's more suitable for various spots...LOL.

My faves...... *Nicotiana alata (common evening flowering white) *Datura inoxia *Matthiola incana (started blooming in 90+ degree temps!) *Clarkia elegans (Clarkia amoena does not have a fragrance) *Lilac *Blue Elderberry (Sambucus mexicana).....Native to Eastern WA. I'm scoping out seeds around the corner from me...empty lot. It's a matter of getting them before the birds do though LOL! They are still in flower and smells soooo heavenly :O *Common Milkweed (give it it's own area!) I've been yanking out runners this year 15' away from the mother plant...runners didn't start until year 4! *Phlox paniculata As far as foul smelling: *Pelargonium x hortorum *Ginkgo biloba....steer clear of females; their fruit are extremely foul smelling!! *Ligustrum obtusifolium (Privet) *Juniper (I think it smells of cat urine) Of course most herbs, however there is no smell until leaves or flowers(of some) are crushed,rubbed, etc. Some people think Catmint smells like cat urine. Not sure which Nepeta they have, but mine sure smells much more pleasant than that LOL!

You're not doing anything wrong. There's been a lot of discussion about scents on the Rose Forums. After scores of posts about the differences and the lacks the general consensus was that people smell things differently and there are certain scents that can't be picked up at all by some people. Also plants produce more and less scent at different times of the day, air temperatures and humidity. So keep trying. There was a poster on here that couldn't understand why her night blooming jasmine didn't produce a scent for her. Come to find out she had an early bedtime and the jasmine doesn't release it's scent until 10 pm or later. All the plants you mention very smell nice to me and are fairly strong. However, I have noticed that Rangoon Creeper smells strong at times and other times I get very little scent. I think it has to do with the age of the blooms and the time of day. Lucky for certain family members some scents don't bother me as much as they do them. I don't mind skunk spell so I'm the one who gets to bathe the dogs when they get into skunks. Plus I'm the one who got to clean out the freezer with venison and fish when we came home from vacation and found the power has been off for a week. I don't especially enjoy those smells, not by a long shot, but they don;t gag me either. Bottom line: scent is a very individual thing. But I understand how you feel. I love fragrant plants.
