Saltcedar, that's it! I did some web surfing and you're absolutely right. We're within walking distance from Ga marshland, so, Baccharis halimifolia, (Groundsel, Sea Myrtle, Consumption Weed) makes perfect sense for our area. I think that this shrub may get too big for the waterfall to handle but I'm going to leave it there until it blooms in late summer or early fall. Now I have names for both plants on the waterfall. Yup... WH as we call them here. Invasive in many (if not most) southern states, so be very careful to keep it at home. Wonderful for their ability to filter water through their root system, propigates through shoots sent out from the plant, easy to grow. Tropical, won't overwinter in lower temps, and hard to keep thriving even in an aquarium indoors. Fish like to nibble on the roots, koi apparently more so than goldfish, they've been known to strip the roots off a healthy WH and leave it for dead. Some ponders will save those by tossin' 'em in a bucket with fertilizer and then back to the pond after a time. Great plant to share with us 'northerners' once you get so many you're tossing them in the compost!! :)

It is trailing arbutus, Epigaea repens. It is actually a shrub, although it appears to be a vine.
