Desert Willow Tree leaves yellowing

My Desert Willow is starting to get yellow leaves and now the leaves are dropping just as it is starting to form blooms. We have had a lot of rain and cool weather and now its hot so I was wondering if this was causing it? Seems to me the soil might be lacking something. Anybody know anything about this? I poured a bit of Miracle Grow plant food around the roots tonight to see if that helps in case its nutrients. I have it planted in sandy soil.
