Phyla nodiflora aka Frog Fruit

I love this little charmer, but have always kept it in pots. I am now wondering if it would be a good native ground cover around my veggies to help keep the soil moist and hopefully choke out some weeds. I just don't want it to choke out my veggies! thanks

RE: Phyla nodiflora aka Frog Fruit

We have it around shrubs in fairly heavy shade on clay where it has been fairly docile thanks in part to an occasional heavy trimming by rabbits. One of the Wasowski books mentions that these appear to pout for awhile after being cut back. Might be different with more sun, but seems you could keep them from overpowering your veggies with just a little trimming as needed. Sounds like a good experiment since the plants are fairly easy to (re)move if it doesn't work out.
