Columbine; Where do bloom stalks come from?

Hello! I went hiking in Colorado last summer. I was thunderstruck when I happened upon a beautiful wildflower I had never seen before. I found out later it was the Rocky Mountain Columbine. So I found some seeds from a supplier on the internet. Now I have two plants in 7 inch pots at work under florecent lights. I keep the lights on 24 hours. The two plants drink a lot of water and respond well to Miracle Grow and Fish Emulsion. The leaves are really a dark green! They are healthy plants and this 7 inch size pot seems to be the right size. They are not root bound.

It is very interesting, the new leaf stalks all come from the very center of the crown and push the older leaves down and out. The older leaf stalks turn yellow and die. I pluck them off the crown.

But I have one small stalk, 1 inch long now, coming from the outside edge of the crown. Is this a sucker or a bloom stalk?

Anybody know where the bloom stalks come from? Do they come from the center too, like the leaf stalks?

- Thanks, - Steve from Kansas
