Pond Plant

This sprawling, hairy plant was growing along the edge of a pond. It had heads about 0.4 inch across, and leaves as shown. I couldn't tell whether those flat, green objects were flowers, or if they were fruit. One of the flowers just opening appears to have a hint of red showing. And there are small bracts underneath the head on the upper, right part of the photo. Can you determine species?

This was answered elsewhere, and identified as Modiola caroliniana.
