It's a Euonymus americanus.

Thank you very much. Googled it and found out all I needed. This is scattered through a wooded portion of my back yard. None of it is more than about three feet tall. I think the heavy shade is probably the cause for the lack of growth.

It is a shade plant, but deer love it, so here on my property it rarely gets very tall, although I have seen it six feet or so.
