Louvain climber from America?

I saw at the Louvain botanical garden a climber growing 30 feet high, that was unknown to the curator and that stood there for more than 40 years. It has opposite more or less ovale leaves and flowers of about 3/4 inch in cross section.

A detail of the flowers you see in the link. Has anyone an idea what species, genus of even family it could be?

Perhaps one of the milkvines, opposite leaves would be a characteristic that matches. Matelea carolinensis looks similar.

The tips of the leaves are rounded and the veins of the leaves end tippically parallel with the leaf edges and then there are those specific "filaments?", that I have never seen in other plants. Could all that match to one of the milkvines?

I would second Cl Madame Caroline Testout. It is very fragrant, and grows up our chimney to about 15 feet - I think it could be trained along a wall. Also likes our climate - two of them survived over 7 years in the back yard of a vacant house near mine - blooming their heads off, even with no care at all and having been swamped by blackberry bushes! I grew a Cl. American Beauty collected from a very old plant in Beulah, Colorado many years ago. It's the one Sequoia sold for a number of years and the one Ashdown sold. It could repeat once established and when spring was long and fairly stable. When it ended abruptly with the high heat beginning over night, it stopped flowering. If yours is happy and the climate is right, it could well be the right rose. Kim

OMG Campanula, I about peed my pants with "mashed up babies"! No, in fact these have even been a little ignored - not as much manure mulch as the others. Now, the other side of the fence has Cypress trees, so there's lots of Cypress needles in the soil. (?) And there is something about N. California! But, regarding your first question! My Honey Dijon is really just nuts with blooms. It is the bloominist rose on the ranch. I bought Honey Dijon as a "make me feel better" after I lost one of my beloved felines. And I buried him about 2 feet under Honey Dijon. Lots of schmaltzy things going on there with that rose and memories of my cat, but bottom line - I think there is something in your comment! NO - I am not suggesting what it might sound like!!!

So I'm answering this as if I know anything about climbers. Almost none of my attempts have worked well. But here's what I learned. In order to be a great climber I believe they need to have surviving cane. Something about that surviving cane that produces more blooming laterals in the following years. I'm not sure if I'm right or even how to explain it but my climbers were always regrowing instead of building a structure. Does that make since? Just seems as if they need to be hardier than zone5 for me if they were going to be any thing more than a giant shrub. Maybe even zone3. Just clobber me with a wet noodle if I'm way off base.

I really am not familiar with the milkvines. I just thought the flower looked similar based on someone else's post some months ago. Why don't you do some research (just google around) and see what you think? Perhaps even call the curator and suggest it to him/her.

It could be Perioploca graeca, not an American I am afraid.

No definitely a Matelea species looks more like the M.Flavidula but with different markings. Can you get seeds of this beauty for me by chance?
