One of my many Winterberries, a young Winter Red, did not leaf out until mid june, and did so with many, many tiny leaves, almost like fronds. They look healthy. I have posted a photo. Any idea?

RE: Winterberry

I'm absolutely no expert, but could it have gotten chewed on by hungry deer in it's early sprouting period? Or did new sprouts get nipped by a late freeze? Either of those might explain such robust growth directly from the main stem. I'll be interested to hear what others say.
